Steve Bruce has seemingly hinted that Newcastle United are close to landing reported Aston Villa target, Callum Wilson, by stating that he’s hoping a couple of deals are concluded in the next ’48 hours’.
The former Villa boss admitted that the rumours surrounding Wilson have been well ‘publicised’, with the fans ‘eager to see it happen’, as he told the Chronicle.
The Daily Mail did previously claim that Villa and Newcastle are battling it out for Wilson, who was relegated to the Championship with Bournemouth on the last day of the Premier League season.
Both Villa and the Magpies are in need of attacking power, as Wilson’s past experience in England’s top-flight will come in hand wherever he goes. This is what Bruce had to say:
‘“It’s been publicised,” Bruce told the Chronicle. “And all the supporters are eager to see it happen.
“We’re close to one or two things, so let’s hope in the next 24 hours, 48 hours, we can bring one or two in.”
During his time at Dean Court, Wilson has showcased his ability to play up top on his own and in a two, with either a Josh King or a Dominic Solanke.
He has great movement inside the penalty area, which suits both interested parties because they love getting a high-percentage of crosses into the box.
Plus, the England international also has the capabilities to hold up the ball, which would suit Bruce’s defensive, low-block system because it will allow his players to get out and push forward when under immense pressure.
It would also suit Smith’s more attacking system where he likes to overload in the wide areas because Wilson would then have bodies out wide to link up with, as well as players such as John McGinn, who like to run in behind.
