Leeds United’s Samu Saiz has been banned for six games.

Samu Saiz has accepted a ban from the FA for spitting at an opponent as Leeds United were knocked out the FA Cup by Newport County.

It was an embarrassing day for Leeds, and Saiz disgracing himself has left his side without his services for over a month.

He has been given a six game ban by the FA and is not appealing the punishment.

Saiz apologised to opponent Robbie Wilmott, and the League Two star has accepted the gesture.

He sent a message on Twitter last night wishing Saiz and Leeds well for the rest of the season.

Wilmott’s message is a credit to him, and at least draws a line under the incident from Newport’s perspective.

Unfortunately for Leeds, the memory of the cup defeat will live on, and they will be dealing with Saiz’s transgression for the next few weeks, with the talented Spaniard suspended for a key run of Championship fixtures.
