Dawodu moved to Sheffield Wednesday after being released by Arsenal.
The former Arsenal trainee, Josh Dawodu, has revealed it took him “no time at all” to take to Sheffield Wednesday.
Dawodu moved to Wednesday after his release by Arsenal 18 months ago, having spent his entire academy career with the Gunners, and impressed to earn his first professional contract on Thursday.
And speaking to the Owls’ official website afterwards, the full-back said: “It’s a big day for me because I’ve been working so hard for this.
“It’s a tough journey but this is a special moment to sign my contract alongside my parents and Steven Haslam (the Sheffield Wednesday academy manager, below left). Now it’s important to knuckle down and work even harder.
“After I finished my time at Arsenal, we came up here and I played a game against (Nottingham) Forest and we were really happy and excited by the set-up and how the coaches thought I could progress.
“It took no time at all for me to take to this club, from the first training sessions I’ve enjoyed every minute.
“We’ve had a fantastic season so far, top of the league, there is a little break now over Christmas but when we come back in January we’ll be looking to push on again.”
Dawodu is the third Sheffield Wednesday youngster to sign his first pro deal at the club in the space of nine days, following in the footsteps of Conor Grant and Isaac Rice.
All three players have now committed themselves to Hillsborough until the summer of 2021.
The trio’s teammate, Eyad Hammoud – recently named among world football’s 60 best young talents by the Guardian – is said to have trialled at Arsenal before his move to the Owls from Lokomotiv Plovdiv.
