The Northern Irishman has recently been appointed by the Scottish Premiership side.
Newly appointed Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has admitted that he will look to seek the advice of both Martin O’Neill and Neil Lennon as he looks to emulate some of the success they enjoyed during their respective spells at Parkhead, the Evening Times reports.
The former Liverpool boss has been given the task of succeeding Ronny Deila. And while the Norwegian led the Hoops to two Scottish Premiership titles during his tenure, it is fair to say that the squad is still some way away from achieving the things that both O’Neill and Lennon led their sides to during their times in charge.
And while Rodgers conceded that he was yet to speak to either of the pair, he did suggest that he intended to do so when asked about the possibility of seeking advice.
“No, not really but I will do though. I have had messages from big John Hartson but I will speak to Neil because he is a good guy who understands it,” he told the Evening Times.
Despite winning the league title in both of his seasons in charge, Deila never quite managed to exceed expectations during his time with the Bhoys.
However, Lennon and O’Neill were both able to oversee the kind of European nights – with the latter taking the club to the 2003 UEFA Cup final – that Rodgers’ predecessor was unable to bring to the club during his time, so the Northern Irishman may be hoping to use their knowledge, as well as the experience that he gained from his time at Liverpool, to guide the side back to the heights that a team of their stature should be reaching.
