Newcastle United should consider signing the big man on a free transfer.
Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez brought in Salomon Rondon and Yoshinori Muto during the summer, but the Magpies’ opening day defeat at home to Tottenham underline their need for more firepower in the final third.
Whilst the transfer window is closed for teams in England, it is still possible for clubs to sign players on a free transfer, and that is a market that Rafa should try to exploit over the next few days.
Lacina Traore, the giant Ivorian hitman, is available on a free transfer, following the expiration of his contract with Monaco, and at the very least, he would bring a certain kind of physicality to Newcastle’s front-line.
Standing at 6ft 7in tall, the 28-year-old is obviously incredibly strong in the air, and he would be able to act as a wonderful focal point for the Toon to build their attacking play through.
Traore is far from clinical in front of goal, but his ability to link up play between midfield and attack would surely prove to be key to getting Newcastle’s attacking players more involved in the game, and his ability on a free transfer makes a move for him a complete no-brainer for the Toon.
