Newcastle United defender Fabricio Coloccini may not have had his finest season to date, but he has underlined his importance to the side since Alan Pardew left to join Crystal Palace.
Pardew’s departure rocked the club, as it came seemingly out of the blue, and Coloccini has led by example since that day.
Coloccini started the season in poor form, but he has been increasingly involved in Newcastle’s last few matches – with his statistics showing the progression he has made.

Coloccini is one of Newcastle’s most experienced players and he has clearly taken it upon himself to guide the side through what has been a turbulent period.
His form is made all the more important due to Newcastle’s lack of other options at centre-back.
The Magpies have Mike Williamson and Paul Dummett as their only two senior defenders that are fit and, therefore, it will be crucial that Coloccini maintains his high standards for the remainder of the season.
