Newcastle United are beginning to show their true class, and sit third in the Championship table, just three points behind the leaders.

In an interview with the club’s official website, Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey explained the positives he has taken from the international break, despite it being a frustrating time for him.
The 24-year-old has been an integral figure for the Magpies this season, appearing in every Championship game, scoring three goals and chipping in with three assists.
His side currently sit third in the table, and it could be argued that the international break came at the wrong time for Rafa Benitez’ men, but Shelvey is determined to take the positives from the two-week period without a game, as quoted by nufc.co.uk:

“In this league, games come thick and fast. I’ve played in the last few games in this little period before the international break so it’s nice to have a break now, get some rest and then go again for Brentford. But on the flip-side, when you’re winning you don’t want to stop. You want to keep playing and playing and playing and keep winning games, because the more points you get under your belt the better.”

The North East outfit face a very winnable run of games upon the resumption of the Championship schedule, with an away trip to Barnsley sandwiched by two home games against Brentford and Ipswich Town respectively.
This three-game spell will give Benitez’ men a real opportunity to send a message of intent to the rest of the league, and a return of nine points from those games could easily see them at the Championship summit in two weeks time.
