Newcastle United are reportedly keen on signing the Swansea City frontman.
According to a report from Ghana Web, Newcastle are lining up a £13 million bid for Swansea City forward Jordan Ayew this summer, but the Toon should surely be aiming higher than the Ghanaian.
Ayew moved to England in the summer of 2015 when he joined Aston Villa from Ligue 1 side Lorient in a deal believed to be worth in the region of £8.4 million, but he has desperately failed to establish himself since then.
The 26-year-old joined Swansea for £5 million in January 2017, and despite showing glimpses of his talent, it is hard to argue that he has been anything other than a total flop since moving to England three years ago.
His goalscoring record speaks for itself. He has chalked up just 22 goals in 116 appearances since the summer of 2015, and why Newcastle would want to spend £13 million to bring him to St James’ Park is baffling to say the least.
Ayew offers little through the middle, as far as a physical presence goes, and it is hard to see where or how he would improve the Magpies’ starting XI.
Considering Villa signed him for £8.4 million, before selling him to Swansea for just £5 million, if Newcastle were to fork out nearly three times that amount for his signature, the Welsh club would be laughing all the way to the bank.
Newcastle need a strong centre-forward who they can build their attacking play through, and Ayew certainly isn’t that man.
