Newcastle United are reportedly keen on Besiktas forward Cenk Tosun.
According to the Daily Star, Newcastle United are planning a January bid for Besiktas striker Cenk Tosun, though they allegedly value him at around £15million.
The Magpies have enjoyed a decent opening to the Premier League season with just one defeat in the last six games, but manager Rafael Benitez may still want more goals.
Joselu has scored twice since signing from Stoke City over the summer, but doesn’t have the clinical edge Newcastle are looking for, whilst question marks surround the futures of Dwight Gayle and Aleksandar Mitrovic.
Tosun, 26, has hit ten goals in 19 games for club and country so far this season, whilst he even hit 24 goals last season for Besiktas, and 17 the season before that having established himself as something of a goal machine.
The German-born Turkish international is now unsurprisingly attracting major interest, but the alleged £15million fee may mean that Newcastle could struggle to afford him – unless they attempt a swap deal.
The same Daily Star report suggests that Newcastle are prepared to let striker Aleksandar Mitrovic leave in January, and one club who registered an interest in signing him over the summer was Besiktas.
Fotospor reported back in June that Besiktas wanted to sign the Serbian hitman, who has yet to start a Premier League game this season, and has made just one substitute appearance as he struggles to convince Rafael Benitez.
With Besiktas allegedly keen, Newcastle may love to strike a deal where Tosun heads to St. James’ Park, and Mitrovic heads in the other direction to bring that £15million asking price down, in a move that could suit all parties.
Mitrovic could get a change of scenery and a chance to impress a different manager, whilst Tosun would be handed a Premier League move, giving Benitez a potent striker – and Newcastle would be wise to offer such a deal in January.
