Newcastle United have already brought Elias Sorensen back from Blackpool.

Newcastle United had high hopes when they sent Elias Sorensen on loan to Blackpool, but it really didn’t go to plan.

The Danish striker, 19, had hit 16 goals in 19 games for Newcastle in Premier League 2 and the EFL Trophy this season, sparking real excitement at St James’ Park.

Sorensen was showing potential that he could become a Premier League striker, and Newcastle decided to send him out on loan in order to gain first-team experience.

After seeing Sean Longstaff thrive on loan at Blackpool, Newcastle attempted to repeat the trick by sending Sorensen to the Seasiders too, feeling it could be a great move having seen Longstaff become a Premier League regular.

Sorensen’s January loan move to Blackpool proved to be a disaster. He made just one appearance, and was recalled by Newcastle last week after failing to make an impact in League One.

That’s a major blow for Newcastle, who were hoping to see Sorensen follow the same path as Longstaff, and his struggles leave Rafael Benitez needing to consider the next move.

Sorensen clearly isn’t ready for Premier League action, and whilst he blocked Longstaff from leaving on loan last summer, Sorensen may need another loan move this summer.

Handing him a move to another League One or even League Two club may give Sorensen a chance to prove his worth once again, and bounce back from his poor Blackpool stint.
