Newcastle United may have only drawn with fellow promotion chasers Reading earlier this week but one Magpies player in particular can hold his head high after a job well done.

Paul Dummett has started nearly all Newcastle’s league games this season and on Reading he proved why he is trusted time and again by manager Rafa Benitez, putting in a fine performance at either end of the field.

Newcastle may not have secured all three points but Dummett did his best to inspire a victory, setting up three goal-scoring chances for his teammates while also doing his job in the visitors’ back-line.

By the end of the match, the Newcastle left-back had the highest passing accuracy of any Magpies player on the night – 78 per cent – and as well as his three key passes he recovered the ball on seven occasions and made 12 effective clearances.

On top of that Dummett won six interceptions, five duels and three aerial battles, and without him Newcastle would have had a far tougher time keeping an impressive Reading side at bay.
