Newcastle United’s superb January signing Martin Dubravka has admitted that he is in awe of Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

In comments reported by the Chronicle, Martin Dubravka has suggested that Hugo Lloris is one of his idols, and he admitted that he was delighted to come up against him when Newcastle faced Tottenham on the penultimate day of the season.

Dubravka has arguably been one of the signings of the season in the Premier League. After joining in January on loan, the Slovakian took little time to grab the number one role at St James’ Park and proved to be a key player as the Magpies not only dragged themselves away from the bottom three but ended up securing a top-half finish in the top flight.

The Chronicle suggests that talks over a permanent move are now planned, and it is unlikely that many Newcastle supporters would have any complaints if the 29-year-old did stay for the long-term.

And while reflecting on his first few months in the Premier League, Dubravka opened up about his admiration for the Spurs skipper who he got the chance to line up against at Wembley earlier in the month in a game that Mauricio Pochettino’s side would win 1-0 thanks to Harry Kane.

“I was dreaming of one of the big leagues since I was really young. It was something special for me,” he said, as reported by the Chronicle.

“Of course, you have some idols, and Hugo Lloris was one of these idols. I was so happy that I could be on the pitch with him. He’s an amazing player and an amazing person.”

Lloris has undoubtedly been one of the finest goalkeepers in the world over the last few years, and has played a huge role in helping Spurs elevate themselves in recent seasons so it is little surprise Dubravka finds himself looking up at the Frenchman.

And if Newcastle can sign Dubravka permanently, the Magpies supporters will unquestionably be delighted if he can have anything like the impact that Lloris has had with Spurs.
