The centre-back has endured some difficult moments at the start of his Newcastle career.
Newcastle United defender Florian Lejeune has admitted that he is still adapting to the Premier League.
The centre-back joined Newcastle from Eibar last summer, and, while he has produced some encouraging performances at times, Lejeune has also had several disappointing games.
Lejeune told France Football: “Often in England, the game starts are quite intense so if you are not physically ready, it’s complicated. I am ready but I am still in the process of adaptation.
“It’s a new Championship that I discover: it’s a different game and the contacts are tougher too. I know that I have to work more on the physical and tactical aspects.”
Newcastle won 3-2 against West Ham United in their last game as they secured their first Premier League victory since October, but they face a major challenge tonight as they host leaders Manchester City, who remain unbeaten in the top flight this campaign.
There is still much work for Newcastle to do in order to preserve their Premier League status, with the club currently in 15th place in the table, just one point above the drop zone with a game in hand.
Lejeune, though, will hope to help Newcastle perform consistently in the second half of the season as he looks to show that the club made the right decision to sign him.
When all of Newcastle’s defenders are fit, it is arguable that Ciaran Clark is a better option to partner Jamaal Lascelles at present than Lejeune is, but the latter is highly regarded by Rafael Benitez and will be aiming to prove his worth.
