Everton should seriously consider a swoop for Newcastle United ace Jonjo Shelvey this summer.
Everton manager Sam Allardyce will have a lot of work to do at Goodison Park in the summer, if he is to build a squad capable of finishing inside the top six next season.
The Toffees squad is imbalanced, and the addition of a top class central midfielder – someone who can dictate the tempo of the game from the middle of the park, will surely feature highly on Allardyce’s agenda.
With this in mind, the Merseyside outfit should consider a move for Newcastle ace Jonjo Shelvey.
The 26-year-old joined the Toon from Swansea City in January 2016, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £12 million, and despite receiving criticism from some section of the St James’ Park faithful, he has proven to be a consistent performer for Rafa Benitez’s side.
Shelvey is wonderfully composed when in possession of the football and possesses an impressive range of passing – two attributes that Everton sometimes lack in midfield.
The Englishman is also tenacious, and is not afraid to mix it physically. He would be the ideal midfield partner for someone like Idrissa Gueye or Tom Davies, and would provide Allardyce with a totally different option in the middle of the park.
Shelvey is still under contract with Newcastle until the summer of 2021, so he certainly won’t come cheap, but he could turn out to be a wonderful acquisition for the Toffees, if they do in fact bring him to Merseyside this summer.
