Newcastle drew 0-0 against Cardiff City on Saturday .

Jamie Sterry has told Newcastle United’s official website that he was disappointed to be left out of the Toon squad to face Cardiff City on Saturday, as the club drew 0-0 with Neil Warnock’s men.
The 22-year-old impressed during pre-season but has failed to make a Premier League appearance for Newcastle since May 2016. He was hoping for a run out on Saturday.
That is because DeAndre Yedlin suffered a knee injury in the first game against Tottenham, leaving Rafa Benitez to choose from either Sterry or Javier Manquillo. He picked the latter.
Manquillo went off at half-time and was replaced by Isaac Hayden, who was sent off just 20 minutes later. Sterry spoke of his disappointment at being snubbed by Benitez.
“I feel like I’m good enough and last weekend I felt like I could have had a chance, so it was a bit disappointing. But you’ve got to keep your mental strength really high and try to be positive about it,” Sterry said.
“All I can do is give 100 per cent, and I asked to play in the game because I want to play football and show everyone what I can do.”

Sterry is very much on the fringes of Newcastle squad, only ever appearing for the club’s senior side on five occasions in the past. There has been talk that he could leave on loan again.
However, with Manquillo injured on Saturday and Yedlin still recovering, as well as Hayden’s sending off, Sterry could be in line to start against Chelsea on Saturday at St. James’ Park.
