Newcastle’s Jamaal Lascelles has commented on former club Nottingham Forest and their current woes.

Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles has told The Mirror that he thinks Nottingham Forest’s players are being treated fairly by the club.

Forest have endured years of instability under controversial owner Fawaz Al-Hasawi, and there have been talks to sell the club to a consortium headed up by former San Diego Padres owner John Jay Moores.

However, the £50million deal to take over at the City Ground has been rumbling on for months now, with fans concerned that the protracted deal will end up collapsing.

Off the pitch, Forest are in turmoil, and things aren’t much better on the pitch either. Forest have picked up just one point in their last six Championship games, leaving the club just two points clear of the relegation zone.

Saturday’s FA Cup exit at the hands of fellow Championship strugglers Wigan Athletic has piled the pressure on manager Philippe Montanier, and this weekend’s game with Birmingham City will be vital amid speculation over the futures of a number of players.

Henri Lansbury – who was left out of the squad to face Wigan – is wanted by Aston Villa in a £3.5million deal according to The Mirror, Newcastle United are keen on Ben Osborn (Nottingham Post), whilst Matty Cash and Ben Brereton are attracting interest from RB Leipzig and Manchester United respectively, as reported by The Mirror.

Now, Forest youth academy product and current Newcastle star Jamaal Lascelles has offered his brutally honest view on the situation surrounding his former club.

Lascelles has told The Mirror that he thinks Forest are in a mess right now, but hopes they get out of it having spent 14 years with the club, and added that players like Osborn, Lansbury and Michael Mancienne are being treated unfairly by the club given the uncertainty over their futures, with soon-to-be free agent Mancienne waiting to hear about a new contract.

“Hopefully they sort out the mess they are in. I feel for a few of the players still there,” said Lascelles. “They still have a few really good players. Ben Osborn, Henri Lansbury, Michael Mancienne, they were there when I was there.”

“I don’t think they are getting treated fairly for what they are offering and giving to the club. That is my homegrown club, I was there from eight years of age. I wish them all the best,” he added.
