Newcastle United can take some heart from some of these victories perhaps, as the Championship promotion race heats up.

Newcastle will return to Championship action following the international break looking to strengthen their grip on a place in next season’s Premier League.

When a season reaches March, the form-book can largely go out the window and how a team copes with pressure seemingly becomes the most important factor in how a side gets on in the business end.

With that in mind, here is a look at some of Newcastle’s most impressive victories from March and April since the turn of the Millennium, including a handful of derby wins…

Newcastle 2-0 Liverpool (April 2012)

Two goals from Papiss Cisse saw the Magpies pick up an impressive win over Liverpool. The victory was the third in a flawless six-game run that would help Newcastle secure fifth spot in the top flight.

Tottenham 1-4 Newcastle (March 2008)

After going a goal behind, second-half strikes from Nicky Butt, Geremi, Michael Owen and Obafemi Martins saw the Magpies win 4-1 at White Hart Lane. The result would help give them plenty of momentum heading into the clash with Sunderland the next month.

Newcastle 2-0 Sunderland (April 2008)

Two first-half goals from Michael Owen handed Newcastle the bragging rights. Kevin Keegan’s men would finish the campaign four points clear of the Black Cats in the table, so the win was crucial.

Middlesbrough 1-2 Newcastle (April 2006)

A George Boateng own goal and Shola Ameobi strike would hand Newcastle a 2-0 lead before the break. Boateng scored in the right end late on, but the Magpies held on.

Sunderland 1-4 Newcastle (April 2006)

Like the Tottenham game two years later, Newcastle picked up a 4-1 win away from home having gone into half-time 1-0 down. Michael Chopra, Alan Shearer, Charles N’Zogbia and Albert Luque would each score at the Stadium of Light.

Newcastle 6-2 Everton (March 2002)

Alan Shearer, Carl Cort, Andy O’Brien and Olivier Bernard all scored one while Nolberto Solano bagged a brace to blitz Everton at St James’ Park.

Derby 2-3 Newcastle (April 2006)

Derby took a 2-0 lead early on in the second-half, but goals from Laurent Robert and Kieron Dyer levelled the scores before Lomana LuaLua bagged a stoppage-time winner.
