The Magpies’ womens’ outfit is also beginning to get a lot more attention placed on it.
Newcastle co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi has been an advocate for the ladies since arriving in the North-East alongside wife Amanda Staveley back in October.
Today, they hammered Alnwick Town 4-0 at St James’s Park on a record-breaking afternoon on Tyneside.
The Newcastle ladies didn’t break a record for the scoreline; it was down to attendance.
Over 22,000 people turned up to St James’s Park to watch the match, beating the previous record that the Magpies set in January for a Women’s National League contest.
Proud of his club, Ghodoussi tweeted out the official numbers – and even tagged Sky Sports News in an attempt to raise awareness of the achievement.
To put the attendance figures into context, Newcastle play in the fourth tier of the women’s football pyramid, which is even more staggering when you think about it.
Ghodoussi and Staveley, very much the boots on the ground on Tyneside, have done remarkable things to this club as an entire entity over the past eight months.
And it’s genuinely fascinating to wonder where Newcastle will be – both the men and women’s side – will be in the coming years.
