Newcastle playmaker Georginio Wijnaldum claims the Magpies are ready to face Sunderland.
Newcastle United star Georginio Wijnaldum has taken to Twitter ahead of tomorrow afternoon’s Tyne-Wear derby agaist Sunderland.
Wijnaldum, 24, is the man of the moment on Tyneside after scoring four goals against Norwich City last weekend, in a game which the Magpies won 6-2.
Wijnaldum’s heroics gave Newcastle their first Premier League win of the season but this weekend is a totally different proposition for manager Steve McClaren, as he takes on Sunderland in the Tyne-Wear derby.
Newcastle make the short trip to the Stadium of Light on Sunday, with McClaren’s men desperately looking to end an embarrassing run of five Sunderland wins in a row on derby day.
The Black Cats are without a victory this season, so Newcastle will be heading in to the game with some confidence behind them – and that’s apparent with Dutch international Wijnaldum.
The midfielder has taken to Twitter on the eve of his first clash against Sunderland, posting a rallying cry to supporters ahead of the big game.
Wijnaldum is likely to play a key role if Newcastle are to end their drought in the derby, with their last win over Sunderland coming more than four years ago – and another defeat would put the pressure back on manager McClaren.
