The hectic nature of Newcastle United’s February schedule will certainly prove to be a test of their abilities.
Newcastle United are certainly one of the front runners for the Championship title this season, and there aren’t too many sides that can claim to be in a better position than the Magpies. But still, this league has a tendency to surprise people and if there was ever going to be a month in which Benitez’s men struggle, it will likely be in February.
With back to back home games in the first few days of the month against QPR and Derby, Newcastle have a chance to make a statement. With both sides in very different situations it will be interesting to see how they set up at St James’ Park, with the Rams in particular looking set to pose a big threat under Steve McClaren.

Up next comes two away games against teams searching for an identity in this league in the form of Norwich City and Wolves. The Magpies have beaten both sides either in the Championship or cup this season, and the momentum of both teams over the next few weeks will prove how these clashes could go. The Canaries certainly have a squad capable of challenging for promotion, but as their last game against Newcastle proved they occassionally buckle under the pressure.

To finish up the month Benitez’s men will be back at home for games against Aston Villa and Bristol City, with both teams on the verge of a push for the play-offs. The atmosphere at St James’ Park has been questionable at best this season, and if these sides come straight at the Magpies they could be in for a tough 90 minutes.
All six games are certainly winnable, especially when your depth is as strong as Newcastle United’s. But still, the amount of games in such a short space of time coupled with the varying kick off times could provide a few stumbling blocks.
