Newcastle United forward Dwight Gayle seems delighted with the service he is getting from his teammates as he continued his good goalscoring form earlier this week, the Chronicle reports.

Gayle added another two goals to his tally in the 2-0 win over Barnsley on Tuesday which took the Magpies to the top of the Championship – bringing his haul to 11 goals from as many appearances in the league so far this season.

The 26-year-old is quoted in the Chronicle, saying: “I said at the weekend it’s just fantastic to play in front of some of the quality we’ve got and everybody just seems to be chipping in with their little assists at the moment and hopefully it continues.

“It’s not just Jonjo [Shelvey] and Matt [Ritchie], but we have 20 or so other players who can play those sort of balls and it’s fantastic to be playing in front of them.

“When I’m making my runs, I just sort of know that those balls are going to be coming as well and it’s fantastic to be playing up top in front of those.”

A striker has to rely on the service of his teammates, and it seems that Gayle is getting exactly what is required. Their service, not just for Gayle, is one of the main reasons that Newcastle are the top scorers the division so far this season.

Gayle also highlights the depth of the squad that Rafa Benitez assembled in the summer, giving him licence to make several changes over the course of a few games, enabling him to keep players fresh come the business end of the season.

It’s impressive that Gayle feels that even there are changes to the side, given the amount of players that are able to provide good service for him, that he can maintain such a good run of goalscoring form. Usually changes can disrupt the flow of the side in certain areas – but Newcastle’s main striker seems pretty satisfied.
