Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez has an opportunity to sign Andre Schurrle on loan, according to The Mail.

Borussia Dortmund are keen to send the German international out for 18 months, providing a club split his £150,000 per week wages.

Signing Schurrle would be a coup for Newcastle, and Benitez should be doing everything he can to secure a move for a player he came close to managing once before.

This was during Benitez’s time in charge at Napoli, but he was beaten to his signature by Wolfsburg who paid Chelsea £24 million.

He told The Mail: “It’s true we tracked Luiz Gustavo, Ivan Perisic and Andre Schurrle for a long time, but it was not possible to sign them.”

Benitez’s long standing interest in Schurrle could give Newcastle a bit of an edge, with the forward looking for a much needed career boost.

He has made only six appearances for Dortmund this season but his record of 22 international goals in 57 games says everything about his quality.

Newcastle desperately need an impact player and Schurrle has a point to prove. On a loan deal it could be a match made in heaven for the Toon Army.
