He already has Manolo Gabbiadini at his disposal, but the Italian is more of a technically apt poacher, who is most effective when operating in and around the six yard box.
With this in mind, the Argentine should be looking at bringing an established target man to St Mary’s this summer, and who better for Southampton than Magpies striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, whose future at St James’ Park is far from certain.

The 22-year-old possesses all of the attributes that the south coast outfit are currently bereft of in forward areas, and despite his struggles at Newcastle, perhaps a change of scenery is exactly what he needs to help reinvigorate his career.
The Serbian is incredibly strong in the air, and his strength at playing with his back to goal, and holding the ball up would perfectly compliment Gabbiadini’s style of play, which would provide Pellegrini with the option of playing two strikers with contrasting attributes together up top.
According to the Chronicle, Rafa Benitez is prepared to sell Mitrovic this summer for around £14 million, which would represent fantastic value in the current transfer market.
The Magpies hitman would be the ideal replacement for the recently departed Jay Rodriguez, and Southampton should not hesitate to sign him this summer.
