The Newcastle United hitman would be a useful addition to the Southampton squad.

Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino has made a fairly respectable start to life on the south coast, with his side currently sitting in 10th position in the Premier League table, after a return of 13 points from their opening 10 league games.
One particular area of concern for the Argentine, however, will be his side’s impotent attack, with their tally of just nine Premier League goals scored being worsened by only five teams in the top flight.
There seems to be too much pressure on Manolo Gabbiadini to produce the goods, week-in week-out, and the acquisition of an established striker will surely feature highly on Pellegrino’s wish-list in January.

And with this in mind, Southampton should consider a move for Magpies hitman Aleksandar Mitrović, who faces an uncertain future on Tyneside.
The 23-year-old possesses superb aerial prowess – something that Pellegrino’s men are currently desperately bereft of, and he would provide the Argentine with the option of playing with more variety.
The Saints have become too one dimensional in the manner that they set up in recent years, which in turn has made them fairly straight forward to play against.

The Serbian would change all that though, if he moved to St Mary’s. He is excellent at holding the ball up, excels when playing with his back to goal, and possesses attributes which would make the the ideal strike partner for Gabbiadini.
And if Pellegrino does manage to bring the Newcastle man to the south coast in January, it could turn out to be a signing of real significance for Southampton.
