Lazaar suffered a hamstring problem in only his second appearance for Sheffield Wednesday on loan from Newcastle United.
Steve Bruce has predicted it will be at least six weeks before Sheffield Wednesday’s on-loan Newcastle United left-back Achraf Lazaar is fit to return.
Lazaar will undergo a scan later today after suffering a hamstring injury during Wednesday’s 2-0 win at Brentford on Tuesday – which was only the player’s second senior outing this season for Newcastle or the Owls.
And speaking via Sheffield Wednesday’s official Facebook page earlier, Bruce said of the Moroccan: “He’s having a scan this afternoon. We’ll know a little bit more (then).
“But you have to say the early (signs) don’t look good for the boy to be perfectly honest. Fingers crossed it’s not as bad as we fear.”
Asked whether Lazaar is likely to miss weeks or months, the Owls manager replied: “Weeks, weeks. But at least six I would have thought.”
Should Bruce’s prediction prove accurate then Lazaar would only have a maximum of five league games left in which to feature before he returns to Newcastle.
And the 27-year-old’s absence is particularly problematic, given that Wednesday were recently without likely stand-ins Morgan Fox and Jordan Thorniley.
Asked about the pair earlier, Bruce added: “I think (Fox) is looking to join in training. We’ll see how he is today. He’s still a little bit ginger with it. But we hope he’s going to be OK.
“Jordan, we’re monitoring him. But apart from Lazaar we haven’t picked anything up from the other night.”
Lucas Joao is another concern for Sheffield Wednesday ahead of Monday’s Steel City Derby, but the striker could still be passed fit, according to Bruce.
