Newcastle United have joined the race to sign Yves Bissouma – but face a real battle with Arsenal, Aston Villa and Liverpool.

The Daily Mail report that Newcastle have an eye on Bissouma with Aston Villa expressing an interest in signing him.

The Sunday Mirror (09/01, p71) add that Newcastle are now planning a move to sign Bissouma this month.

Eddie Howe allegedly thinks Bissouma is perfect for his style of play and wants to lure him to Newcastle.

That report adds that Arsenal and Liverpool also fancy Bissouma though, meaning this won’t be an easy chase.

Add in that Bissouma is away at the Africa Cup of Nations with Mali and a January deal seems hard to pull off.

Branded ‘sensational’ by Ian Wright, Bissouma has really kicked on in the last couple of years.

Signed from Lille in 2018, Bissouma was in and out of the Brighton side during his first two seasons at the Amex Stadium.

Bissouma was superb last season, and may now believe the time is right to move on; he’s now 25 and has seen Ben White earn a big move away from Brighton.

Still, a move to Newcastle would be a huge risk. The Magpies are in a major relegation battle and look to be in real trouble.

Bissouma would be risking almost wasting that development in recent years by joining Newcastle with the threat of Championship football looming.

Arsenal’s search for a midfielder this month makes them an interesting proposition for Bissouma, but it seems that Newcastle are trying to push to the front of the queue.
