Newcastle would be getting bargain paying £15m for Kenedy

Newcastle United reportedly could be able to sign Kenedy permanently for a fee of £15 million.

According to a report from the Daily Mirror, Newcastle will need to part with £15 million in the summer if they hope to sign Kenedy on a permanent basis from Chelsea.

Kenedy has made a handful of appearances for the Magpies since arriving at St James’ Park on loan during the January transfer window, and has made a big impression during those six games, scoring twice and providing one assist. It must also be noted that Rafa Benitez’s men have lost just once in those games, a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool, and have eased their relegation fears slightly.

The Mirror reports that Newcastle want to keep Kenedy beyond the next few months, but will have to spend £15 million to take the Brazilian on a permanent deal.

While that would represent a sizeable fee for Newcastle – the £16 million deal for Michael Owen in 2005 remains their club record signing, according to the Chronicle – Mike Ashley would be asking for trouble if he did not meet that asking price.

Kenedy appears to have a huge amount of potential – he is clearly highly-rated given that Chelsea have handed him first-team appearances during his time at Stamford Bridge, unlike many of the players who have left the Blues on loan – so it would be a big mistake for Newcastle to not make the deal permanent.

He has shown during his brief spell that he has the quality to make a devastating impact and that is arguably kind of player Newcastle need as they look to build on an encouraging, but eye-opening, first year back at the highest level.

Newcastle will not have many better chances to land a player with that much ability for £15 million. The Magpies must grasp any opportunity to make a permanent move happen with both hands this summer.
