Newcastle United have enjoyed a solid season and it’ll be exciting to see what they can do next term.

The Magpies have been building their squad slowly, steadily and sustainably, and they’re now reaping the benefits.

With the transfer window just a few months again, Newcastle will likely make more key recruits.

Inter Milan and Netherlands defender Denzel Dumfries has been linked with a move to St James’ Park in recent months.

In January, Gazzetta dello Sport claimed that Newcastle, Manchester United and Chelsea had all held talks with the £44million star’s agent.

And earlier this week, Fabrizio Romano shared an update that hands the Magpies – and Dumfries’ other Premier League suitors – a boost.

The transfer insider reported that the 26-year-old had joined the Wasserman Agency ahead of a summer search for a new club.

In addition, Romano said the Premier League would be his favourite option, though the race is still very much open.

‘One of the best Dutch footballers’

Meanwhile, Dutch journalist Sander Berends recently spoke to Tuttomercatoweb about Dumfries.

He said the Inter ace has a reputation as one of the best players in the Netherlands.

Berends also said a move to the Premier League for Dumfries would not surprise him.

“Dumfries is one of the best Dutch footballers and is very popular at home,” he said.

“He is a good player both in the offensive and defensive phases, he never gives up and athletically he is very strong.

“I am not surprised if he were to land in the Premier League.

“Also because it is a league where he could do very well given his characteristics.

“What surprised in the Netherlands is the fact that with Inter he was not always a starter.”

Dumfries would be an outstanding signing for Newcastle.

He’s a high-calibre player in the peak of his career and isn’t overly expensive either.

Let’s see what happens in the summer, and Newcastle will certainly fancy their chances of signing him.
