Jonas Wind was reportedly a target for both Newcastle United and West Ham in January, yet since missing out on the Dane, the now-VfL Wolfsburg star has been tearing up the Bundesliga.
As per the club’s official Twitter account, the youngster has been named Rookie of the Month in the German top-flight for February, with Wind bagging two goals and becoming the first Danish player to win the accolade in league history.
Indeed, Wind has taken to life at Wolfsburg with ease, with the striker replacing Wout Weghorst flawlessly after his departure to Burnley in January. And for Newcastle and West Ham, they could already be regretting the decision not to sign the 23-year-old.
Premier League duo wanted Wolfsburg star Wind in 2021

As reported by Jeunes Footeux, both Newcastle and West Ham were eyeing Wind ahead of the January transfer window, with both clubs keen on signing a striker heading into the second half of the season.
However, as we know, Wind never made a move to the Premier League, with the youngster instead being snapped up by Wolfsburg. Moreover, Newcastle instead signed Chris Wood from Burnley whilst West Ham, once again, failed to bring in a new striker.
Whilst the Magpies have flourished since the January window, with Wood recently bagging his first goal for Eddie Howe’s side, West Ham have again looked short in central attack, with Michail Antonio’s last goal in the league coming on New Year’s Day.
With Wind taking Wolfsburg by storm and now winning Rookie of the Month in the Bundesliga, both Newcastle and West Ham will feel like they’ve missed out on a hidden gem this January based on the Dane’s form.
Wind has replaced Weghorst seamlessly as well made the jump from the Danish Superliga to the Bundesliga with comfortable ease, adding even more food for thought for Newcastle and the Hammers, who could have had the striker in their books had they acted quicker.
