Newcastle United have been in the race to sign Stephy Mavididi, but Aston Villa and West Ham United now want the Montpellier star.
Reports from the Daily Mail earlier this month suggested that Newcastle were chasing a £15million deal for Mavididi.
Brighton and Crystal Palace were named in that report too, with Mavididi earning rave reviews over at Montpellier.
Tuttomercatoweb now claim that the queue of clubs targeting Mavididi has grown even longer with two more Premier League clubs keen.
Aston Villa and West Ham United are now believed to be interested too, with an offer potentially on the way before the transfer deadline.
Mavididi, 23, was in the Arsenal ranks as a kid having been plucked from Southend United way back in 2011.
After loan spells at Charlton Athletic and Preston North End, Mavididi sold to Juventus, playing mostly in their Under-23’s.
An impressive loan spell at Dijon prompted Montpellier to swoop for Mavididi in 2020 – and he hasn’t looked back since.
With nine goals last season and eight already this term, the speedy attacker is causing major problems over in France.
Primarily a left-sided winger, Mavididi can also play up front and just helped beat Monaco with a superb brace.
West Ham do need to find another attacker to support Michail Antonio, and David Moyes may be familiar with Mavididi having turned out for Preston.
Villa have already spent big this month but Mavididi would offer another goalscoring option either wide or through the middle.
Newcastle may still have a trump card though, and that’s in the form of Mavididi’s brother.
Shaun Mavididi is already in the Newcastle ranks, and reuniting with his brother in the North East may appeal to Stephy.
With just days of the window left to go, it looks like the battle for Mavididi’s signature is well and true on.
