Newcastle United forward Dwight Gayle has won yet more awards while on loan at West Bromwich Albion, picking up April’s Championship Player of the Month award.

The 28-year-old was shipped out to the newly relegated Baggies in August as part of the deal which saw Salomon Rondon head – also on loan – in the opposite direction.

Gayle has been instrumental to West Brom’s hopes of making an immediate return to the Premier League, with 23 goals and seven assists from 38 league appearances (Transfermarkt) to help them seal a playoff place.

Having won the September award, the Magpies on-loan man’s exploits in April – six goals over the month – have yielded a second award of the season, testament to his talents and hard work.

Gayle beat Jayden Bogle of Derby County, Jack Grealish of Aston Villa and Daniel James of Swansea City to the accolade.

On top of that, Gayle won the West Brom Supporters’ Player of the Season award and the Goal of the Season award at the end of last month (official WBA website).

As reported by Chronicle Live last summer, there is no obligation to buy on either Gayle or Rondon, with their futures set to be decided at the end of the season.

Given how well Gayle is doing for a high-flying Championship club, the Magpies really ought to take into account just how well he’s been doing and the recognition he’s been getting when it comes to deciding his future.
