The Magpies have been linked with the 28-year-old Marseille forward once again.
Newcastle United want two ‘first-team ready players’ in January, according to the Newcastle Evening Chronicle.
Major investment is ‘unlikely,’ with Alan Pardew’s side currently in form, the report claims, although two signings could be targeted.
And topping the list is France and Marseille striker Andre-Pierre Gignac. The 28-year-old has been linked with the Magpies before but never have they been able to land the forward target.
This January could be different, however, with Papiss Cisse set to depart for the Africa Cup of Nations in January.
Without Cisse, Pardew’s side will almost certainly need reinforcements up front. Ayoze Perez is on a good run but looks as though he needs a partner in the final third, while Facundo Ferreyra is yet to make his mark at St James’ Park in any capacity.
One problem exists, though, in that reports in France suggest Dynamo Moscow are readying a £4 million move for Gignac, meaning Newcastle will have to compete for his signature – the kind of situation that has often seen them miss out on targets in the past.
