Newcastle are keen on signing Leeds star Raphinha according to Fabrizio Romano – a player that Alan Shearer raved about last year. The Leeds ace is expected to leave Elland Road, whether the Whites stay up – or go down.
Raphinha, 25, has been a revelation since joining Leeds from Rennes in 2020. Costing a bargain £17million, the Brazil international has since clocked up 65 games – having a hand in 28 goals for the Yorkshire side.
But Raphinha is expected to leave this summer, and TalkSPORT claim Leeds could request as much as £64million if the Whites survive relegation. Now, Romano claims Newcastle are interested in landing the winger.
It is believed the Toon have been tracking the ex-Sporting Lisbon star for some time and would “love” him. Speaking about Raphinha in 2021, Shearer raved about the Leeds star – not for his flair, but his work rate.
“Very good on the ball. What impressed me was his work rate, his ability to get back and help out, do his bit defensively. Yeah, he had a very, very good game, as did Harrison on the other side,” Shearer told Prime Video, in 2021.
Shearer praises Newcastle target Raphinha: Saint-Maximin cover?
Allan Saint-Maximin has been a wonderful addition at Newcastle but some reports claim that the Toon sensation could be sold. If he is to go, then surely Newcastle should look no further than Leeds superstar Raphinha.
Even if Saint-Maximin stays at Newcastle, Raphinha would be a top signing. A front three of the Brazilian, Saint-Maximin and Wilson would be brilliant. Either way, the signing of Raphinha would be a real coup for Newcastle.
