Newcastle United have been lining up a move for Chelsea youngster Kenedy for some time.

Newcastle United’s task of signing Kenedy from Chelsea may just have become harder, after his display in the FA Cup last night.

The Chronicle claim Newcastle are interested in doing a deal for Kenedy, but Antonio Conte may now believe the Brazilian has a role to play.

Kenedy was in excellent form for Chelsea last night, as they beat Norwich City in the FA Cup.

The Brazilian was played as a wing-back and he set up Chelsea’s only goal in the contest, with a lovely piece of skill and an excellent cross.

Kenedy was awarded man of the match by Jermaine Jenas, who was commentating on BBC Sport.

And Jenas said: “I think he’s come in and shown his manager he can be an option for him.”

If Conte does decide that Kenedy is a valuable squad member, then he is highly unlikely to sanction a loan move to Newcastle.

The Magpies had identified Kenedy as a player who could improve their first-team squad, but they now may be set to miss out and that could be costly in more ways than one.

Not only would Kenedy have given Newcastle a much needed injection of quality, but with the Magpies set to play Chelsea next in FA Cup, Benitez’s side may get to witness first-hand the damage that the 21-year-old could have done for them.
