Leeds United and Newcastle United were said to be battling for Liverpool’s Danny Ings.

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United could have £300 million to spend in the January transfer window – and that could turn out to be good news for Leeds United.

Newcastle and Leeds were said to be battling it out over the signature of Liverpool striker Danny Ings by the Daily Mirror.

But those rumours emerged when Newcastle still had a limited budget, and Rafael Benitez had to be smart with his spending.

Newcastle will now surely have higher-profile targets than Ings on their radar, if they do have £300 million to spend.

The Liverpool forward may be a talent but, given his injury record, there looks like safer options for a team who has such an amount of riches available to them.

And that could give Leeds a free run to be able to bring Ings to Elland Road.

If Leeds did have to compete with Newcastle for Ings’ signature, it seems more than likely that they would have lost the battle.

But Thomas Christiansen’s side may just have hope that they will be able to get a deal for Ings over the line, if Newcastle now have their eye on more ambitious targets.
