Adam Armstrong looks likely to become a future star for Newcastle United – and potentially England.
The FIFA World Under-17 Cup is currently under way in the United Arab Emirates and no surprise here, England are not currently present – while the likes of Slovakia, Panama and Uzbekistan are indeed in attendance.
But that does not mean the Under-17 side isn’t playing, as they took on Armenia last night in a qualifying game for the next European Under-17 Championships.
England have found themselves in a rather favourable group – with Republic of Ireland, Armenia and debutants Gibraltar all present.
It was Armenia up first, and England put them to the sword in their opening game – winning 4-0 on the night – with one player stealing the show.
Adam Armstrong scored a goal either side of those from Fulham’s Patrick Roberts and Chelsea’s Dominic Solanke.
The 16-year-old recently made the headlines after being called up to the Capital One Cup squad for the tie against Morecambe – and has been compared on numerous occasions to Manchester United and England star Rooney.

He made an impact recently for the Newcastle Under-21s, an immediate impact, scoring five goals in his first five appearances and also scored against Turkey in a recent England Under-17 international.
His first goal against Armenia may have been one of the most fortunate goals in his young career so far, as the Armenian defence hammered the ball against Armstrong that ricocheted into the back of the net.
It was almost all he deserved, after a splendid curling free-kick of his was saved, as well as an overhead kick that flew just wide.
He then had another free-kick that bent just wide, as he continues to demonstrate a penchant for the dead-ball.
He then grabbed a superb dinked finish, Armstrong making it a brace.
Next up is Gibraltar, when Armstrong will be hoping to bag an absolute bagful of goals – and yet another opportunity to demonstrate his growing talents.
