Newcastle United midfielder Matt Ritchie and Celtic captain Scott Brown teamed up on international duty for Scotland.
Newcastle United’s Matt Ritchie has admitted to the Scottish Sun that he never realised how good Celtic’s Scott Brown was until he teamed up with the midfielder on international duty.
Ritchie and Brown were both in the same Scotland squad, over the most recent international break.
And Ritchie claims that Brown has more quality than he realised, while watching the Celtic man from afar.
“I’d watched him play in big games from afar for years and always been impressed, but I probably didn’t realise just how good he was until that first training session together,” Ritchie said.
“You can see what he’s done for Celtic this season and hopefully he’ll be able to do the same for us because we obviously need results to go our way.”
Brown has enjoyed one of the best seasons of his career so far at Celtic, since Brendan Rodgers took charge.
The combative midfielder appears to have been given a new lease of life from the arrival of Rodgers, and he has played a key role for the Bhoys throughout their season to date.
Celtic have been in wonderful form throughout the campaign, and still remain unbeaten in domestic action.
Scotland are due to meet up again later on this month, when they will face fixtures against Canada and Slovenia.
