West Ham United were heavily linked with Jonjo Shelvey in January, with David Moyes said to be keen.

West Ham were said to be willing to pay for Shelvey in the previous transfer window, but Newcastle would not agree to a deal.
And the £12m signing from Swansea City insists that he never wanted to leave St. James’ Park, as he felt that he still had much to offer to Rafael Benitez’s side.

“It was more of a case of wanting to stay here and get this club back to the Premier League, because they paid a lot of money for me; of returning the favour to this club — and hopefully I can stay here for many years now,” Shelvey said.
Newcastle supporters will be delighted that Shelvey has stuck around, as he has played a hugely important role for Benitez’s men as they have pushed for survival.

Newcastle have been in brilliant form of late, and they now look to be safe from the drop.
West Ham are not yet out of relegation trouble, but they are still comfortably above the drop zone.
West Ham may well have missed their chance to sign Shelvey now, as it would be a major surprise if Newcastle were to listen to offers for the midfielder in the summer.
