Newcastle United’s Isaac Hayden has told the Chronicle that he believes Mike Ashley is trying to do things the right away at St. James’ Park.

Ashley came down to Newcastle’s dressing room on the final day of the season at Fulham to show his appreciation for the players’ efforts throughout the campaign.

And Hayden insists that he shares no hard feelings towards Newcastle’s controversial owner.

“To be fair Mike Ashley came into the dressing room, shook everybody’s hand and said thanks for the season, we said thanks back,” Hayden revealed.

“He is making an effort and trying to do the right things.”

Despite Hayden’s words of encouragement for Ashley, Newcastle fans could still be heard chanting against his leadership at the weekend.

Ashley has been accused of not provided Newcastle with enough funds, and he has still not sorted out Rafael Benitez’s future.

Hayden’s own future at Newcastle looks very uncertain, with the midfielder on the verge of an exit.

Hayden wants to leave Tyneside for family reasons, and Newcastle are expected to accept offers of around £20 million for him this summer, according to the Chronicle.
