Rafael Benitez’s Newcastle United side had reportedly been chasing a deal with Crystal Palace for Andros Townsend.

Newcastle United’s chances of signing Andros Townsend are surely over, if Crystal Palace have placed a £30 million price-tag over his head, as reported by The Times.

However, Palace are looking for big money for the wide-man, which surely puts him out of Newcastle’s price range.
Benitez is shopping on a budget at St. James’ Park this summer, and investing £30 million in Townsend just does not look at all feasible.

Newcastle simply do not have the sort of funds required to spend that money on one player, and it may be that they are now forced to look elsewhere in their search of attacking additions.
Newcastle have been quiet in the transfer market so far, with Martin Dubravka their only permanent addition throughout the summer months to date.
