Bruno Guimaraes has only been in Newcastle United colours for a few months, but he is already a firm fan favourite with the Toon Army faithful.

As top-flight domestic football hibernates for a short while, it’s the turn of international football to take the spotlight, with Guimaraes preparing to represent Brazil.

The Copa America finalist are due to face Chile and Bolivia in World Cup qualifiers during the next eight days, with Guimaraes posting this following message to fans on his Instagram.

“Prepared and ready for another challenge defending the national team,” he wrote.

From the eight Premier League games Guimaraes has played in Newcastle colours since his January move, his side have picked up five wins, added with one draw.

The 24-year-old must feel this is easy work because the Magpies have been thriving in 2022, despite a real struggle before he joined.

It wasn’t so long ago that the Newcastle fans had Steve Bruce in the dugout, Mike Ashley as their owner and they were fearing another relegation.

But it just goes to show how a few months can transform a club because Newcastle are the prime example of that.

From the new Saudi-led ownership, Eddie Howe’s arrival and the January signings, it has resulted in Newcastle looking ahead in the Premier League table, rather than over their shoulder.

Come the summer, it’s going to be interesting to see the moves Newcastle make in the market because, just like the winter transfer window, they will be the main event when the window re-opens once again.
