Newcastle United defender DeAndre Yedlin has enjoyed an impressive first season at St. James’ Park.

Ayoze Perez has told the Guardian that he was shocked by Newcastle United defender DeAndre Yedlin’s ability.
Yedlin moved to Newcastle from Tottenham Hotspur last summer, and Perez admits that he knew little about the American full-back.
However, after watching him in training, the Spaniard was immediately taken aback by the ability that Yedlin had.

He said: “I didn’t know too much [about him when he arrived].
“All I knew was he played in Sunderland last year and before that in Tottenham. I never saw him play, but I got surprised when I saw how good he can be. He’s a very good defender, but a great person as well.
“Sometimes he makes you feel calm when you know he is around, because of that speed. He defends really good as well. He takes advantage of his speed, and has given a lot of assists this season, and that is a plus for our team to have that kind of right-back it means a lot. It can make a lot of difference.”

Yedlin has enjoyed an excellent first season at Newcastle, where he has helped Rafael Benitez’s side earn promotion.
The 23-year-old made 27 Championship appearances for the Magpies last term, and is expected to have a key role to play in the upcoming campaign.
Newcastle are back in the Premier League next season, and it is widely expected that Yedlin will part of Benitez’s first-choice defence.
On Newcastle’s way to promotion, Yedlin scored once and claimed six assists.
