Newcastle United winger Ayoze Perez has said Arsenal are the Premier League team most suited to his style if he was not playing for the Toon.

Speaking to Radio Marca [reported by The Chronicle] Perez insists he is happy at Newcastle having helped them clinch promotion to the Premier League.

Perez, 23, scored nine goals and provided six assists for Rafa Benitez’s side this past season.

He is now relishing the chance to play in England’s top flight, stating: “I am very happy in Newcastle and I still have years left on my latest contract I signed.”

Asked about which rival team would best suit his style, he suggested Arsenal as the ideal fit.

He said: “In terms of my characteristics and my style of play, maybe outside of Newcastle, the team that would strike me the most would be Arsenal.”

Perez has played and scored against Arsenal before and will get the chance to try and do so again next season.

Spanish football website Fichajes reported in 2015 that Perez was a transfer target for Arsenal but this speculative link came to nothing.

Perez is a valuable player in Rafa Benitez’s system and while new signings this summer could challenge that, he appears determined to stick around.
