Newcastle United are believed to be interested in Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend.

Newcastle United supporters may still be upset about the way that Andros Townsend left them last summer, but if the opportunity to re-sign him comes up they should take the opportunity.

Townsend disappointed Newcastle by deciding to leave to join Crystal Palace, after they were relegated to the Championship.

The England international had made a positive impression at St. James’ Park after joining in January, but jumped ship just six months after signing a contract with the Tynesiders.

However, since moving to Palace things haven’t exactly gone according to plan for the 25-year-old.

Townsend has struggled to hold down a place in the Eagles’ starting line-up, leading to rumours of Newcastle’s interest (The Sun).

At the moment it is unclear whether a deal would be possible, but if Newcastle have any chance of bringing Townsend back to St. James’ Park they should make sure they take it.

Newcastle looked to be certainties to be promoted, but a recent dip in their form has led to questions being asked.

Townsend’s arrival would certainly prove their ambition, and his injection of quality could guarantee them a return to the Premier League.

Townsend scored four goals in 13 matches for Newcastle in the top flight towards the back end of last season, and Rafael Benitez clearly knows how to get the best out of the former Tottenham Hotspur man.

At Championship level, he would have the potential to single-handedly rip apart opposition defences, and the prospect of Townsend feeding Dwight Gayle is tantalising.

Newcastle are known to be on the look out for quality players this month, and the would be hard pressed to find a better signing than Townsend, if the opportunity is there.
