Aarons has failed to play a Premier League minute so far this season, despite Newcastle’s struggle for goals in recent weeks.
The 21-year-old wide man opted to play for Newcastle’s under-23 side in the Checkatrade Trophy yesterday, but the result of the contest did not go according to plan.
Newcastle were beaten 4-1 by League One side Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park.
Aarons did score the Magpies’ goal, but he also missed some other presentable opportunities.
And the youngster admits that he needs to start being more ruthless in front of goal if he is going to force his way back into Rafael Benitez’s starting plans.
“I need to stop missing the chances,” Aarons admitted.
“I need to take those chances and get better with my final ball, but I’ve not played a lot of games. The more games I play, the more goals I’ll score and the more goals I’ll create.”
Whether Aarons will come into Newcastle’s starting plans in the coming weeks remains to be seen, but he will be looking to impress on the training ground over the international break.
The Magpies are next in competitive action when they take on Manchester United at Old Trafford in two weekends’ time.
