Stoke City reportedly want to sign Dwight Gayle from Newcastle United in the summer transfer window.
Stoke City have made a £10 million bid for Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle, according to The Daily Mail, but it is hard to see the Magpies sell the former Crystal Palace man at that price.
While Gayle has struggled to make an impact in the Premier League for Newcastle and is not guaranteed a place in Rafael Benitez’s side, it is quite inconceivable that the Magpies will sell him for just £10m.
After all, the 28-year-old is a proven goalscorer at the Championship level, and he is worth much more to Stoke in the second tier of English football than he is to Newcastle in the Premier League.
Moreover, Newcastle paid £10m to Palace in order to sign Gayle in the summer of 2016, as reported by The Guardian, and they will surely want to make a profit on him.
Benitez could still be convinced to part company with a player who started 23 Premier League matches last season, but Stoke will have to increase their offer substantially for the striker, who earns £40,000 per week as salary according to Spotrac.com.
