Amadou Diallo has claimed that being at Newcastle United is ‘similar’ to being at West Ham United having joined the Magpies earlier this season.

Newcastle made waves in the summer window by securing the likes of Kieran Trippier, Sven Botman and Alexander Isak.

Yet Dan Ashworth also placed a keen focus on bringing in young players for Newcastle’s often-ignored development ranks.

Jude Smith, Alex Murphy, Jordan Hackett and Charlie McArthur all arrived over the summer as Newcastle look to develop talent for the first team.

The transfer window closed in August but Newcastle managed to strike another signing back in October.

It didn’t exactly make many headlines but Amadou Diallo came in on a free transfer having left West Ham United over the summer.

After a trial spell at Chelsea, Diallo ended up on trial at Newcastle and they gave him a contract until the end of the season.

Amadou Diallo sees similarities between Newcastle and West Ham

Diallo has played eight times for Newcastle in Premier League 2 but is yet to register a goal or an assist.

With Newcastle set to make a decision on his contract in the second half of the season, Diallo may need to make a big impact soon.

Diallo, 20, is predominantly a left-sided winger who maybe hasn’t quite lived up to his potential.

Diallo hit three goals in seven caps for England’s Under-17’s and was hailed as ‘electric’ on the West Ham official website back in 2018.

The winger just hasn’t quite managed to kick on but Newcastle will hope to see him thrive moving forward.

Diallo has now spoken to The Chronicle and admitted that Newcastle is ‘similar to West Ham’ in terms of being a humble club where work ethic is key and the staff are great.

The youngster admitted that being at Newcastle is ‘really exciting’ and he is hoping to take his first-team chance if it comes his way.

“Newcastle needed a winger, they got in touch with my agent and I came down for a two-week trial. I played one game, they liked what they saw and offered me a contract,” said Diallo. “They just said to express myself, to play my normal game as I’d done well to get signed. Be positive with the ball, take my man on, get involved in goals. It’s similar to West Ham.”

“It’s a humble club, everyone works hard and the staff are good with their players. Everyone is open to speak to everyone, it’s been good. It’s really exciting, especially to see what the first-team are doing. It’s motivation for me to keep playing well, and wait for my opportunity if it comes,” he added.
