Rumours surrounding Newcastle United’s next manager continue, with Derby County boss Wayne Rooney the latest name linked with a move.
The Magpies are expected to part ways with manager Steve Bruce in the near future following the club’s takeover.
A host of managers have been linked with the job, even though it isn’t even available yet.
The Chronicle now claim that Derby boss Rooney is extremely interested in a move to Newcastle.
That’s a little ironic; some fans will remember Rooney rejecting Newcastle for Manchester United way back in 2004.
Now a manager at Derby, Rooney has impressed with the style of play and how he has coped with various off-field matters.
The 35-year-old would be a bold appointment from Newcastle, and fans don’t seem all that enthused by the idea.

Newcastle fans comment on Rooney rumours
Newcastle fans generally think this rumour has to be a wind-up, believing that Rooney isn’t of the level they need.
Some think Newcastle can do better, and believe appointing Rooney would consign them to the Championship.
Others simply think that Rooney isn’t ready for such a big job after less than a year in management.
There were a number of Newcastle fans who said they would even rather keep Bruce, urging the new owners to avoid Rooney.
