Newcastle United are set to bring in Mikel Merino from Borussia Dortmund.

Newcastle United fans appear to be excited, as Rafael Benitez closes on signing Mikel Merino from Borussia Dortmund on loan.

Sky Sports have suggested that Merino is on the verge of a move to Newcastle, with the midfielder set to undergo a medical at St. James’ Park soon12.

And Newcastle fans are eager to see what Merino will be able to do in a black and white shirt, although they’re hoping his arrival will not see Isaac Hayden dropped to the bench.

Merino has only made a handful of senior appearance for Dortmund, but he is highly regarded by the German side.

The youngster is well regarded due to his technical ability, and he should offer Newcastle a big increase in creativity.

Merino will offer competition to Jonjo Shevley and Isaac Hayden for a place in Newcastle’s midfield.

Merino is set to become the Magpies’ fifth summer signing, with Benitez’s side also adding Florian Lejeune, Jacob Murphy, Christian Atsu and Javier Manquillo to their ranks so far this summer.
