Newcastle United are said to be keen to snap up Alphonse Areola from PSG.

Rob Elliott has been in fine form for Newcastle since taking over as number one this season, and he has already proven capable of being a Premier League stopper.
The Irish international may not be the highest profile of goalkeepers, but he is a solid and reliable option for Rafael Benitez’s side.

And with Karl Darlow on the substitutes’ bench, Newcastle already have good options in reserve.
If Newcastle do target Areola they would have to invest a significant amount of their January budget into bringing the Frenchman to their club, and it would surely be better spent elsewhere.
Newcastle may feel that they need to upgrade their goalkeeper in the future, but Areola is unproven in England and has not been totally blemish free during his time at PSG.

The 24-year-old looks to be a talent, but he may well need a period of time to adapt to the added physicality involved in English football.
And at this moment in time, while Elliott is in such fine form, Newcastle should look at investing their options elsewhere, rather than in Areola.
